چکیده

A case of presumed endocarditis caused by Moraxella lacunata in a 15-month-old male infant with Fallot's tetrad is described. This infection may have occurred as the result of transmission of this organism between the father and his son. This is the first report of BRO beta-lactamase-producing M. lacunata causing presumed endocarditis.

BRO beta-lactamase alleles, antibiotic resistance and a test of the BRO-1 selective replacement hypothesis in Moraxella catarrhalis.

OBJECTIVES The hypothesis that BRO-1 selectively replaced the BRO-2 isoform of the Moraxella catarrhalis BRO beta-lactamase was tested by examining the temporal distribution, antibiotic resistance and epidemiological characteristics of isolates from a long-term collection at a single locale. METHODS A rapid, one-step PCR assay conducted on 354 isolates spanning 1984-1994 distinguished bro all...

A rare case of Moraxella lacunata producing combined native mitral and aortic valve endocarditis.

We describe a case of infective endocarditis due to Moraxella lacunata involving the native mitral and aortic valves, complicated by cerebral emboli and resultant hemiparesis. The patient was treated with ceftriaxone and gentamicin and improved. This appears to be the first case reported in the medical literature of native multivalvular endocarditis produced by this rare organism.

"Moraxella lacunata" endocarditis treated with penicillin.

The case report of a young male with Endocarditis caused by Moraxella lacunata is presented. Although a well recognized cause of keratitis, conjunctivitis, and sinusitis; very few cases of endocarditis by this rare pathogen are reported in literature. Patient showed a prompt response when empirical therapy was de-escalated to penicillin, after receiving culture and sensitivity report from Micro...

Otitis media caused by beta-lactamase-producing Branhamella (Neisseria) catarrhalis.

A beta-lactamase-producing Branhamella catarrhalis was isolated in pure culture from the right middle ear aspiration of an otitis media in a 3-month-old girl. The patient responded well to cefamandole treatment.

Relation between beta-lactamase producing bacteria and patient characteristics in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

BACKGROUND In addition to bronchodilator and anti-inflammatory therapy, exacerbations in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are often treated with antibiotics. Haemophilus influenzae and Moraxella (Branhamella) catarrhalis, two important respiratory pathogens, may produce beta-lactamase which makes them resistant to ampicillin. Surveillance studies conducted in various c...
